NARR8 is a Russian based, free application available worldwide that allows you to read motion comics and interactive series across an extensive offering of content genres! It was launched in November 2012, but it got over 200,000 downloads in the first two week and had nearly double that within two months! NARR8's creative content studios have created motion comics, interactive novels, and interactive nonfiction articles in genres like superhero comics, sci-fi, fantasy, video games, and much, much more. As the #1 app in entertainment apps for Apple, it's not surprising to hear that they are continuing to expand by launching the app for Android and planning additional series in completely new genres not too far into the future!
A talk with the PR, Alexis Valerio, revealed that NARR8 is planning to have more interactive novels and a move to Microsoft, Smart TV, and 3rd party publishing (all of the content on the app is currently original and thus 1st party content). An update in the app towards more gamification has also made it more popular amongst users because they get tokens, or NARRs, for reading! With the tokens, users can create their own story or their own dialogue--it's really dependent on what you are reading at the moment.
The app itself is already very interactive and very specific to the user. It's an interactive experience with videos, music, and pop ups that come with each "episode" in a series! NARR8 makes reading very exciting and user-friendly, so it's not surprising to hear that the company hopes to increase the educational content for schools to use!
In terms of who is actually using this app, it appears that more males are currently reading and contributing content, but the hope is to increase female users! This means more entertainment, DIY, advice, and romance genres making an appearance. NARR8 is also currently only available in English speaking countries and Russia, but a Spanish, Portuguese, and Korean launch is coming up soon! There are also plans, according to Valerio, to go 3rd party around April. Despite these amazing improvements, NARR8 will remain a free app, which is great!
Recently, they sponsored a Valentine's Day series contest where people could submit their own love stories on NARR8. Users would get a 1-page comic for their story and entry into a contest to win a Galaxy tablet! NARR8 is hoping to have more contests like this in the future where users can make submissions, and, keep your eyes and ears open, maybe you'll even see a contest for Wikia AND NARR8 users!
